STOP using this word in your essays

STOP using this word in your descriptive writing! It is one reason why you (your children) have not been doing well! Instead, use this list.

You read a captivating love story of a couple in a long-distance relationship. They meet only once a year. They take turns to visit each other each year. Finally, after 5 years, the girl decides to break up with the boy. She is tired of maintaining the relationship, and tired of not having him beside her when she needs his company the most. Before they part for the last time, the boy looks at the girl for one last time. “I love you,” he said.

SAID? SAID? SAID? SAID? SAID?

The word “said” doesn’t fully convey how the boy was feeling. There are much better words to convey the tone of his words to understand his feeling at that point of time. Below are some examples.

“I love you,” he cried. (the boy is heart-broken)

“I love you,” he exclaimed. (the boy desperately wants her to know he still loves her)

“I love you,” he murmured. (the boy is devastated but doesn’t have the courage to tell her)

“I love you,” he blurted. (the boy couldn’t help but make known of his feelings)

The word “said” can be the worst anti-climax. So, what other words can you use to replace say? For your convenience, we have painstakingly compiled a list of 60 powerful words for you, 15 words to replay “say” for each emotion. You’re welcome.
