MYE is here!

Bonus: Read till the end to find the link to download the cheatsheet for Visual Text comprehension!

1. What is the purpose of the poster

This question is asking for the call-to-action. Every poster has an agenda. It could be to encourage readers to join an event, to raise awareness for a certain issue or to promote a product. Students have to know what the poster is trying to get readers to DO after reading it in order to know its purpose.

2. What idea does the illustration convey

Students are to describe the illustration (picture/photo/drawing) and relate it to the message in the poster. Students have to understand that the illustration ALWAYS echoes the message and vice versa. So, describe the picture first, then explain/link it to the message.

3. In what way does the poster make readers feel personally involved

Posters can make readers feel more personally involved by

- using 2nd person pronoun "You"

-using 3rd person pronoun "We/us/our"

- asking/posing a question

-having a picture that stares/ looks directly at the readers

- having a person introducing himself/herself in the poster

(do note that this list is non-exhaustive)
